TRI® Dental Implant – Affordable, Quality, Comfort & Longevity.
TRI® Dental Implants are an innovation in dentistry providing patients with a permanent way of replacing one or more missing teeth. They are a true alternative to traditional bridges or removable plastic or metal dentures replacing the missing root and crown of a natural tooth within jaw.
TRI® Dental Implants are made from pure titanium which promotes fusion between the implant surface and the surrounding jaw bone, anchoring the implant permanently into place. This is known as osseo-integration and is the reason for the success of dental implants over other treatments. It takes a period of three to six months following implant placement for complete osseo-integration. The dental implant can then be used to hold a crown, bridge or stabilise a loose denture.
Why choose TRI® Dental Implants at Plaza Central Dentists?
When considering dental implants, there are four elements that patients need to consider:
1. The skill and experience of the surgeon placing the implant
2. The quality of the implant and its components
3. The skill of the dental technician in the dental laboratory fabricating the final crown, bridge or denture
4. The skill of the dentist in treatment planning, co-ordinating the implant process and ensuring long term success.
Plaza Central Dentists have long recognised that patients deserve to be treated by experts in their field with vast amounts of experience so that you know you’re in safe hands.
When you choose to have an implant placed with us, your implant surgery is carried out by Dr Ian Young at The Maxillofacial and Implant Centre (MIC) in Kawana. Dr Young is a Board Registered Maxillofacial Oral Surgeon Specialist, qualified in both Medicine and Dentistry with over 30 years experience in all aspects of head and neck surgery and has successfully placed thousands of implants over this time.
With its Australian Head office in Sydney, we have chosen TRI® Dental Implants as our primary dental implant provider. Manufactured in Switzerland, where dental implant were first developed, TRI® Dental Implants are a research driven implant company that ensure quality in each and every component. Choosing the right implant is as important as choosing the right surgeon.
We work in partnership with Jade Dental Laboratory in Buderim who manufacture the very best life like titanium and ceramic based crowns, bridges and dentures that will eventually replace your missing teeth. Our own expertise in crowns, bridges and dentures, combined with those of our surgeon, laboratory and implant company provide patients with care and attention at each stage.
We are one of the first practices on the Sunshine Coast to provide this type of innovative dental implant treatment which has also helped to reduce the cost of dental implants making them more affordable.
Am I suitable for TRI® Dental Implants treatment?
TRI® Dental Implants are suitable for most healthy adult patients who have good oral hygiene, are free from gum disease and ideally non-smokers. Dental Implants can only be placed when the jaw has stopped growing and so are not suitable for patients younger than 18 years of age. Social/medical factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol intake and diabetes can lead to poor initial healing of the implant and therefore reduce long term success rates. Each case is different and this is assessed prior to proposing any implant based treatment.
In addition to social factors, biological factors such as the quality and density of the bone into which the implant is placed is also important. Patients with inadequate bone can still be treated, but may require initial bone grafting or augmentation to improve the availability of suitable bone for the implant.
As part of our implant consultation, we will not only assess your medical and social history, but we will also carefully look at the overall health of the mouth, gums and surrounding teeth. It is essential that all existing problems with the teeth are treated prior to implant placement.
We use a combination of visual assessment, digital X-rays and 3D scans known as a Cone Beam CT to fully assess the density and quality of bone available. CT scans are now seen as the gold standard to ensure proper treatment planning, safety and success. In addition to this, physical models of the teeth will be made using impressions taken of both the upper and lower jaw.
Together with meticulous treatment planning on our part, we need your help to establish good oral hygiene habits and to eliminate factors that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease to achieve long term success of your dental implants.
TRI® Dental Implants are suitable for most adults with good general and oral health.
How many teeth can I have replaced with TRI® Dental Implants?
TRI® Dental Implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. They can also be used to support multiple teeth using bridges or to stabilise a full denture.
If you are missing just one natural tooth, then one implant is normally all that will be needed to provide a replacement. However, larger spaces created by two or more missing teeth do not necessarily need one implant per tooth; the exact number of implants will depend upon the quality and volume of bone at each potential implant site.
Patients who have a habit of clenching or grinding (bruxing) their teeth may be at risk of overloading their implants. For most people bruxing occurs during sleep, which is why they are generally not aware of it. The effects of bruxism need to be considered during treatment planning and can be mitigated by placing additional implants, selecting appropriate restorative materials and/or providing a night time bite guard to protect the new teeth. This will be discussed in your initial consultation and detailed in your treatment plan.
How long does dental implant treatment take?
Dental Implant treatment is generally split into three stages.
The first is the planning stage, which includes an accurate diagnosis, imaging using 3D CT X-rays and thorough treatment planning. The proposed treatment plan is explained, including all advantages, disadvantages, risks and benefits. Alternatives are also discussed and a detailed quote is provided along with consent forms.
The second stage is the placement of the dental implant, which is carried out by Dr Ian Young, Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. This stage takes between 1-2 hours and once the implant has been placed, it is left for a period of between 3 and 6 months to allow for the bone to grow into and around the dental implant.
The final stage of the dental implant process is the fabrication and attachment of the crown, bridge or denture to the implant – this usually takes two visits.
From start to finish, implant treatment can take between 3-6 months. A detailed breakdown of timing is provided at the initial consultation.
How long do TRI® Dental Implants last?
Like natural teeth, the longevity of TRI® Dental Implants will depend upon a number of factors including your ability to keep your teeth and implants clean and free from bacteria. With proper home care and regular maintenance visits, TRI® Dental Implants have the potential to last a lifetime which is why TRI® Dental Implants offer a lifetime warranty on their implant components.
Twice daily brushing, regular 6 monthly check-ups and hygiene visits will ensure long term success.
Just like natural teeth, implants suffer from excessive clenching forces. It is recommended that a night time bite guard be worn to increase the longevity of implants.
When poorly cared for, implants will develop a covering of hard and soft bacterial deposits (calculus and plaque), which is very similar to that found on neglected natural teeth. Untreated, these deposits can lead to gum infection, bleeding, soreness, general discomfort and loss of an implant.
However, just as you would expect conventional crowns, bridges and fillings to need occasional repairs or replacements, your implant-supported teeth may also have similar maintenance requirements over the years.
Is implant treatment uncomfortable or painful?
Most patients will be familiar with the dental anaesthetics used for routine dentistry and will know how effective they are. TRI® Dental Implants are placed using the same anaesthesia.
Depending upon the complexity of your case, the procedure can take anywhere between 60 – 90 minutes for a single implant, to several hours for more complex and multiple implant placements. We can also offer oral sedation and general anaesthetic.
You can expect some minor swelling and occasionally bruising afterwards, however, for most patients, any of the over-the-counter/basic painkillers that you might take for a headache will be adequate, however stronger medication can be provided.
Healing is generally straightforward and antibiotics are taken a few days prior to treatment and again on the day of treatment to prevent post-operative infection.
How much do TRI® Dental Implants cost?
The cost of a dental implant is dependent upon a number of factors, which include the position of the implant, as well as the need for bone grafting as determined by the quantity and quality of bone available.
